A “Conductr” MIDI control surface does not show up on the MIDI controllers list.

For Mac OS X:

  1. You have to download and install the latest version of Conductr server.

  2. Extract the setup app from the zip file. Execute the package file.

  3. Proceed STEP-BY-STEP. After the install you will be asked to locate your Ableton Live App(s).

  4. Select the Ableton Live application, the same you double-click to start Live.

  5. You will be asked if you want to install the scripts on another Ableton Live version. Repeat this step for every version of Live you want to use with Conductr.

  6. Restart Ableton Live.

For Windows:

  1. You have to download and install the latest version of Conductr server.

  2. Extract the setup executable from the zip file. Run the extracted .exe.

  3. Go step by step and pay attention.

  4. The installer will try to detect all your Ableton Live installs and let you choose which one to install the Conductr MIDI surface controller.

  5. If no Ableton Live install can be found automatically you will be asked later to manually locate your Ableton Live user directory.

    1. Note that some of this folders might be hidden.

    2. The standard directories are:
      1. Prior to Live 8.3: C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live X.X.X

      2. Since Live 8.3: C:\ProgramData\Ableton\Live X on Windows 7 and Vista.

      3. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ableton\Live X on Windows XP.

    3. If you installed Ableton Live on another drive/location, then you should select your install location. The selected path should contain a Resources folder.

    4. Beware: You might have demo or older versions of Live installed. Be sure to check your current Live working version.

    5. If you have more than one nonstandard install of Ableton Live, you’ll have to repeat the server install for each of them, selecting its folder on the corresponding step.

  6. Restart Ableton Live.

On Windows during setup I’m asked to exit several conflicting programs, but setup can’t close them

  1. You can try manually exiting this programs (Usually iTunes and sometimes Word, Excel or video card helper applications that reside on your system bar tray).

  2. As a last recourse, you can ignore them, but then you’ll need to reboot your PC for the changes to take effect.

I can’t see a Conductr Server icon when launching Ableton Live on my computer

If you selected "NO" when the installation software asked you to automatically launch the Conductr Server, you'll have to launch it manually each time you want to use Conductr.

  • For Mac OS X, look for “Conductr Server” on the Applications folder

  • For Windows, use the Start menu → All Programs → Conductr Server → Conductr Server
